This letter should be arriving with another to Valuations Office Worthing through Small Dole letterboxes soon!
Dear residents,
Unlike elsewhere in Europe, people in England living near a landfill
site do not get an automatic Council Tax rebate. However, according to the Local
Government Finance Act of 1992 we fall into the category of ' a material reduction
of the value of our properties' as the tip gets bigger. Thus it seems reasonable
to apply for such a rebate and to save everyone the trouble of composing a letter
themselves, we have drafted a letter to send to the Valuation Office. All that is
required of you is to write your address at the top right hand side of the enclosed
letter, put the date you are sending the letter and then signing it before sending
it off. Of course, if you prefer, do feel free to write your own letter.
The Small
Dole Action Group is still working very hard to ensure that the licence from WSCC
is not extended in the permit from the Environment Agency and that best practices
are followed. However, as the tip will be worked for at least another eighteen months,
and continue to dominate the landscape for many years after, we are entitled to some
compensation. If the majority of the village applied for a rebate, it would also
cause WSCC to sit up and take notice. Failure of WSCC to grant us a rebate will lead
to some adverse publicity in the local papers, something that WSCC will not want.
So
that we have a idea how many people send the letter, we would very much appreciate
you going on to our website www.smalldole.com and clicking the button 'I've sent
the letter'. Alternatively, if you prefer, perhaps you could send a short note to
our Secretary: Frank Brown, 1, Silver Birches.
Best wishes, Marian Brown. Small Dole Action Group
